In 2013 “Selfie” was announced as Oxford dictionaries word of the year and since then the smartphone manufacturers have started focusing on their selfified customers. Since last couple of years selfie-centric smartphones have flooded the market and now the competition is in providing the best selfie phone. Oppo’s latest smartphone Oppo F3 is featuring dual front facing camera which allows to take crisp selfies and group pictures. The Oppo F3 is priced in India at Rs. 19,990
We recently checked Oppo F3 Review and were quite amazed with it’s dual front camera’s performance. Let’s review the new Oppo F3 quickly:
Let’s check the Positives first:
Build and Design of Oppo F3
Oppo F3 comes with a unibody design having a sturdy poly-carbonate body with metal like finish. The 5.5 inch 1080 pixel display is covered with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 2.5D curved glass. The home button below the display doubles up as a fingerprint sensor and works smoothly.
The ports placement is done in the normal way with volume button on left, power/sleep button on right while 3.5mm audio jack and microUSB slot at botton. Speaker is also placed at bottom. The great thing about Oppo F3 is it’s sim tray. Oppo F3’s SIM tray accepts 2 nano SIM cards and a separate MicroSD card for expanding the storage space.
Specifications of Oppo F3
The 5.5-inch full HD display of Oppo F3 is great to view and it offers good color reproduction. Oppo F3 comes with 64GB of storage space with 51GB available for users. The latest smartphone from Oppo also features huge 4GB RAM and Media Tek MT6750T Octacore 1.5 GHz Processor for smooth functioning.
Dual Front Camera
Oppo F3 uses dual front cameras with one 16-megapixel camera for selfies and another 8-megapixel camera for group selfies with 120 degree wide angle view. Front camera duo works great outdoors but loses it’s some sharpness in dull indoor lights. Oppo have given an on-screen flash for better low-light pictures, but they result with a grainy look.
Battery Life of Oppo F3
Oppo F3 gets life from its 3,200 mAh battery which is good enough to last an entire work day with moderate use. During a weeklong usage by me, I was easily getting screen-on time of upto 270 minutes. I used to make approz 40 mins of phone calls, browsing social networking websites and had configured three email accounts. The oppo F3 does not have Lightning Port but its quick charger (2A output current) makes the battery gain full power in quick time.
Now let’s check the negatives of Oppo F3:
Rear Camera of Oppo F3
The Oppo F3’s 13-megapixel camera with phase detection auto-focus is an average performer. The daylight pictures looks decent at times; however, when used under harsh sunlight, the pictures goes overexposed due to the camera module’s inability to capture enough information. During indoor conditions Oppo F3’s camera can just finish the task with bearable shots and you can easily see some graininess.
Processor used in Oppo F3
Oppo F3 is powered by a mid-tier MediaTek 64-bit MT6750T octa-core SoC (eight Cortex A53 cores) processor. Manufactured on the 28nm fabrication process, this processor is lacks power and efficiency compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC which is manufactured on the 14nm process.
Smartphones like Redmi Note 4 and Lenovo P2 are using Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC for better performance; however, they are available online which saves the distribution cost and this might be the reason companies like Oppo which spend more on distribution networks are going for cheaper chipsets for their smartphones.
Operating System of Oppo F3
Even though Google have released Android Nougat since more than 6 months, Oppo F3 still uses the previous Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based ColorOS. For an entry-level phone it’s not an issue, but when you are purchasing upper mid-range smartphone, you might have concern about it.
The security patch on Oppo F3 dates back in March 2017 when many devices are getting the latest for April 2017. On it’s single layer interface, there is no app-drawer as well. It’s interface seems to be complex and something like stock Android could have been better.
Our Final Verdict On Oppo F3
Overall Oppo F3 is a decent smartphone which comes with sturdy design and build quality, good (64GB) of storage and Ram (4GB), fast fingerprint sensor and at a great price of Rs, 19,990.The dual front cameras are great for taking selfies and specially group selfies. However, the chipset in Oppo F3 is not that great and especially when other smartphones in similar range are available with faster Snapdragon 625 and Snapdragon 650-series (650, 652, 653).
The rear camera performance is average which is a big drawback. For customers using smartphones for mostly for clicking selfies, the new Oppo F3 can be a great option. Otherwise, there are many better performing smartphones available like Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Lenovo P2 and Gionee A1 giving overall better performance and value for money.
