Google Assistant and Siri are currently topping the Virtual Assistant category and by introducing Bixby, Samsung is challenging Google and Apple. Let’s check Best Virtual Assistant: Google Assistant vs. Siri vs. Bixbe”
The difference is the way how users interact with them. While Google Assistant and Siri rely on voice command by pronouncing the hot word like “OK Google” and “Hey Siri” while Samsung finds it useless and have provided a dedicated button to just press and speak whatever command they want to give, without the need of hot word.
However, all three have option to input request via text instead of giving a voice command. Bixby goes to next level by supporting image inputs which can be directly through Samsung Smartphone camera or from existing pictures or searching a picture through company’s web browser. Bixby can also provide contextual information like business listings, landmark information, or even detailed information on famous face identified from the picture. This is not actually a new feature as Google now can perform similar results searching based what currently your screen have.
The prime feature here is the way Bixby offers interaction with itself, a slightly different method compared to Google Assistant and Siri, for better or worse. However, Bixby button is not the feature which can define the user experience.
Integration with Apps
Another huge difference between the three is the way Samsung have integrated Bixby with it other applications. Bixby can even use your gallery pictures or newly taken pictures to create a new album. Samsung is working on minimizing the hassle of scrolling through multiple menus. This feature is currently given in 10 apps on Samsung Smartphone and Samsung is going to add more apps to the list. Samsung will also include support for third party applications soon by opening it’s Bixby SDK. Similar to Samsung, Google and Apple also support the selected apps as well. Google Assistant is integrated with Google’s Allo, Photos, and Play Music. Google assistant is also integrated with apps like Youtube, Uber, Spotify, Netflix, and many third party apps.
Siri also supports Yelp, WhatsApp, PayPal, Facebook, Uber, Pinterest, Lyft, and any other apps allowing it’s users to accompany variety of tasks by giving voice commands.
Being integrated with phone’s core functions, Google Assistant, Siri and Bixby can do the basic tasks like making calls, sending messages, setting reminders, and adding dates to your calendar is almost similar way.
With all these three Virtual Assistants there is a unique section of applications with zigzag level of support, so you can pick the one based on the apps you use in your day to day life. Being a newbie, Bixby have disadvantage of supporting third party applications; however, it may catch up soon once Samsung open it’s Bixby SDK for developers. For Samsung fans the good news is that Bixby offers deep integration compared to other Virtual Assistants.
Building Your Smart Home
Apple’s is not just and Smartphone or Smart Watch feature and it’s also compatible with wide range of third-party smart home devices with Apple’s Home Kit initiative. On the other hand, Google and Samsung are developing their own smart home products integrated with their own virtual assistants.
Samsung provide a demo where Bixby transferred Samsung Galaxy S8’s display to one of the Samsung’s smart TV viewing the contents of it’s smart refrigerator. These Samsung home features will be available with Bixby right from its launch. It’s still not clear that how far Samsung is planning it’s Smartphone integration with Bixby, but it seems that the focus will be on company’s smart range of products including smart home appliances.
Google Assistant is not behind in these features and it supports number of IoT devices and playing smoothly with Nest thermostats, Google Home and Google Wi-Fi. Using IFTTT also allows users to connect Google Assistant with a wide range of devices. After completing the setup with compatible hardware, this can allow the user control over light by just saying like “OK Google, lights on please” .
A good Virtual Assistant is the one which can be used in variety of devices and for variety of uses. Samsung Bixby is currently made available only on Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 plus which gives it a smaller user base. However, Samsung have announced that Bixby will be integrated with other devices as well including the range of smart home products, there is a possibility that upcoming handsets from Samsung like Samsung Note 8 can get Bixby and older models may too receive Bixby Assistant through an update. For older handsets which does not have Bixby button, it’s something to watch for that Samsung will use an existing button like Volume for Bixby or will give any special button integrated in OS.
After launching Google Assistant on Google Pixel handsets, it have find a place inside LG, HTC, and Samsung smart phones through software updates. Google Assistant is now officially supported on all handsets having Android 6.0 and higher version of Android OS. This will give at-least 30 percent of current handsets access to Google Assistant.
Siri have large number of user base with Apple iPhones, specially in the west. Apple is using the same Virtual Assistant for multiple generation. Bixby will take some time to catch up with Siri. Having wider range of Handsets, Samsung will definitely try to catch Siri sooner.

Google Assistant currently have notable benefit as it’s going to arrive on many more devices in upcoming days. While Siri does not have any real competition with it’s iPhones , giving it a comfortable market share as well.
Bixby seems to be in most precautious place as it will directly compete with Google’ s Google Assistant on the same smart phones. Bixby’s comes with impressive capabilities by getting deeply integrated with Samsung apps; however, third party support is most important key when it comes to compete with Google and this is something Samsung need to have some serious focus.
